Silicone Masterbatch: Enhancing Processability and Surface Quality in Plastics

Modern plastic manufacturing often involves complex processing conditions—high-speed extrusion, injection molding, or blow molding—where friction, melt instability, and poor surface finish can affect productivity and product quality.

Silicone Masterbatch provides a smart, efficient, and permanent solution. It enhances lubricity, process stability, surface aesthetics, and even mechanical properties—making it a must-have additive across diverse polymer applications.

Dot Design

What is Silicone Masterbatch?

Silicone Masterbatch is a high-performance additive concentrate that contains ultra-high or high molecular weight silicone (typically polydimethylsiloxane – PDMS) dispersed in a thermoplastic carrier resin like PE, PP, EVA, or universal carrier.

It is used to:

  • Improve polymer flow
  • Reduce surface friction
  • Enhance mold release
  • Improve gloss, softness, and slip

Minimize die build-up and gel formation

How Does It Work?

Silicone molecules migrate slowly to the surface or stay within the polymer matrix, depending on the formulation. They:

  • Form a low-friction surface film that reduces coefficient of friction (COF)
  • Act as internal lubricants to improve polymer melt flow
  • Improve demolding, extrusion stability, and reduce wear on tools

Unlike conventional lubricants, silicone additives do not leach, bloom excessively, or compromise clarity or color when correctly formulated.

Formulation & Usage

  • Typical Dosage: 0.5% to 3% (can go up to 5% for high-slip requirements)
  • Carrier Resins: PE, PP, EVA, universal
  • Available Types:
    • High Molecular Weight Silicone Masterbatch (for permanent modification)
    • Low MW grades (for fast migration and short-term applications)
    • Combination Additives (Silicone + Anti-block, Silicone + UV, etc.)

Packaging & Storage

  • Supplied in 25 kg moisture-proof laminated bags
  • Storage: Cool, dry conditions away from direct sunlight
  • Shelf Life: Up to 12 months in sealed condition

Conclusion

Silicone Masterbatch is the go-to solution when you want smooth surfaces, easy processing, enhanced slip, and better productivity—without compromising polymer performance. Whether you’re producing flexible films, molded parts, or technical extrusions, this masterbatch provides functional, aesthetic, and processing advantages that scale with your production.
